Breaking News: Homicide Investigation Launched in Daniel Aruebose's Disappearance (2026)

A bold update in the Daniel Aruebose case: authorities have elevated the probe from missing-person status to a homicide investigation.

Gardaí confirmed on Thursday evening that the disappearance of toddler Daniel Aruebose, who vanished from Dublin more than four years ago, is now treated as a criminal death investigation. With Daniel’s eighth birthday approaching tomorrow, investigators are again asking anyone with information to come forward.

Based on fresh inquiries, detectives now believe Daniel, whose skeletal remains were found earlier this year on waste ground near Donabate, died as a result of the actions of another person or persons. While several interviews have taken place, no arrests have been made to date.

What began as a missing-person case has been upgraded to a homicide investigation, marking a significant shift in the case’s trajectory.

Daniel was last seen alive at his home in the Gallery apartments in Donabate more than four and a half years ago, when he was only three years old. His death and secret burial remained undisclosed until concerns were raised after a routine review of social welfare payments triggered by concerns for his safety and whereabouts. The Department of Social Protection alerted Tusla, who in turn contacted Gardaí. A search of nearby waste ground was launched last September, and Daniel’s skeletal remains were recovered after about two and a half weeks. He was formally identified on 17 September.

Daniel’s foster family—the people who cared for him during his first eighteen months—have been rocked by his disappearance. They have spoken of their lasting memory and ongoing longing for him.

The post-mortem results did not yield a definitive cause of death, and Daniel’s remains remain with the coroner for burial arrangements. A number of persons of interest have been identified and spoken to, but no one has yet been arrested.

With new information and ongoing inquiries, Gardaí have declared this a homicide investigation, indicating Daniel was killed by the actions of another person or persons rather than dying from natural causes.

This reclassification unlocks additional investigative powers, including court-ordered warrants for searches, the potential for arrests, and formal interviews under caution.

Gardaí emphasize that no detail is too small and that every bit of information could prove relevant. Anyone with information should contact Swords Garda Station at 01 666 4700, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station. The investigation team will continue to keep Daniel’s family updated as the case progresses.
