Broadway Box Office EXPLODES! Hamilton Breaks Records! (2025)

Hold onto your hats, Broadway fans! Hamilton just smashed its own box office record, raking in an astounding $4.9 million last week! This is a testament to the show's enduring popularity and the power of live theater.

This incredible feat was achieved during the Thanksgiving week, a traditionally lucrative period for Broadway shows. But there's more to the story than just the holiday boost. The return of Leslie Odom Jr., an original cast member, on September 9th, has undoubtedly played a significant role in drawing audiences back in droves. With an average ticket price of a whopping $454.81, the musical's eight performances generated a near $5 million windfall.

However, Hamilton isn't the all-time Broadway champion. That title still belongs to Wicked, which earned just over $5 million across nine performances at the end of last year.

Next in line, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child conjured up a remarkable $3.1 million, a massive sum for a play, and broke the box office record at the Lyric Theatre. The presence of Tom Felton, known for his role as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, has undoubtedly added to the play's appeal. The average ticket price also saw a rise, reaching $242.95.

Following closely behind were Wicked again with $3 million, The Lion King with $2.8 million, and Chess, starring Lea Michele, Aaron Tveit, and Nicholas Christopher, which grossed $2 million, also setting a house record at the Imperial Theatre.

Mamma Mia! and Ragtime also celebrated their best weeks on Broadway, with Mamma Mia! grossing $2 million and Ragtime bringing in close to $1.5 million, marking Lincoln Center Theater's best week since the pandemic. Chicago had its highest-grossing Thanksgiving performance yet, earning $151,362.45 as one of the few shows that performed on Thursday.

And this is the part most people miss... Overall, the Broadway industry saw a 19 percent increase in gross revenue from the previous week. The average paid admission rose by $22.41, and attendance increased by 2.6 percent as the industry enters its most profitable time of the year.

But here's where it gets controversial... Do you think the high ticket prices are justified, or are they pricing out potential theatergoers? What do you think about the impact of celebrity casting on box office success? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
