Nvidia GeForce Now's New Time Limit: 100 Hours per Month
Gamers, brace yourselves! Nvidia's GeForce Now, a cloud-based game streaming service, is about to implement a new time limit. Starting in late 2024, users who signed up after January 1, 2025, will be capped at 100 hours of gameplay per month. This means that after 100 hours, you'll need to pay extra to continue playing.
GeForce Now allows gamers to stream their own games to various devices, including computers, smart TVs, smartphones, handheld consoles, and VR headsets. The service has been a game-changer for many, offering powerful hardware for gaming without the need for expensive hardware.
The new time limit applies to almost all subscribers, with existing subscribers being exempt until January 1, 2026. If you want to play for longer, you can purchase 15-hour blocks of time. The cost varies depending on your plan: $2.99 for the Performance tier and $5.99 for the Ultimate tier.
The Performance plan costs $9.99 per month, while the Ultimate plan is $19.99 per month. There's also a free tier with ads, allowing you to play for an hour at a time. Any unused hours will roll over to the next month.
It's worth noting that hitting the 100-hour limit each month can be challenging. It equates to over 13% of a 31-day month, which might be frustrating for avid gamers. However, long-time subscribers who joined the Founder member scheme before March 17, 2021, are exempt from this limit.
In PCMag's review, the service was praised for its potential as a gaming PC replacement, provided you have the best internet connection and the desired games are available. Nvidia's decision to implement a time limit has sparked discussions among gamers, with some expressing frustration and others finding it a fair compromise.
Stay tuned as we keep an eye on how this new policy unfolds and how it impacts the gaming community.
